Yellow Brass Wire

This copper-and-zinc alloy forms a shiny yellow wire that closely resembles gold. Brass 260, aka cartridge brass, is a popular alternative to gold wire for many projects and a great choice for learning and practicing wire jewelry techniques. Because it shares not only the look but also the malleability of gold, it is a favorite among jewelers for crafting. It is also a great green alternative, as brass is predominantly a recycled material!

Red Brass Wire

Brass 230, aka ‘red brass,’ is another alternative to gold wire, often composed of copper, zinc, and tin. While it has a misleading name, being named ‘red brass’ after its alloy, it is a true gold color. This makes it a great and much more cost-effective alloy to use over gold-filled wire, as it shares the look without the price. Red brass is a much tougher and sturdier alloy than yellow brass due to its higher concentration of copper.
