Nickel Chromium Wire
Need resistance wire for your manufacturing needs? As one of the best providers of specialty wire and cable online, Arcor Electronics is a premier manufacturer, supplier, and distributor of nichrome wire. Nickel-chromium wire is one of the oldest recorded alloys used for resistance heating. Nichrome is a non-magnetic alloy composed of nickel, chromium, and iron that has high electrical resistivity and excellent oxidation resistance at high temperatures. Whether it’s used as a bridgewire in explosives, a support wire in kilns, or part of the heating element in a hair dryer, nichrome wire is an outstanding resistance wire for your project!

Various Uses of Nichrome Wire
Nichrome’s special alloy gives it unique properties such as high electrical resistivity, oxidation and corrosion resistance, and a high melting point. This is why nichrome is used in many applications that involve high heat, such as in explosives, household appliances, and even in arts and crafts. Due to its high resistance and melting point, nichrome wire is used primarily in electric heating elements. This means everything from hair dryers, ovens, and toasters to more relies on this special custom wire.
Nichrome wire is used in many explosive and fireworks applications, often as a bridgewire for electrical ignition systems. Many electrical matches and model rocket igniters use nichrome wire for this reason.
Even the art field finds use for nichrome! Many ceramic artists use nichrome wire as an internal support in their ceramics while they are fired in a kiln, taking advantage of its high heat resistance. Because nichrome can withstand temperatures up to 1400 °C, it has no trouble with the high heat involved in ceramic firing.
